USA Luta Livre developed the most advanced and modern regulations in grappling today. This ruleset, which aims to identify the best athlete, was created to reward the competitor who strives for the submit, the pinnacle of grappling! USA Luta Livre is thinking outside the box to take the sport to the next level by exploring with rules that are intended to raise the bar for technical performance with thrilling matches that will draw in more spectators.
Innovations:
1) No advantages. Allowing advantages in grappling leads to techniques and strategies to just score advantages, which is totally inconsistent with the desire of submission and the practical use of such skills in self-defense scenarios.
2) Should there be a tie in points, athletes will play two-minute overtime matches.
No breaks are allowed.
Each overtime will be resumed in the competitors' exact position from when the time ran out previously.
There will be one overtime match in regular divisions and two overtimes will be allowed in FINALS and ABSOLUTE divisions.
If the tie holds, the athlete who scored the last points will be declared the winner.
In the case the match ends with 0 x 0 in points, the referee will declare the winner based on a combination of:
Submission Attempts, Aggression, Mat Control and Pace.
3) The athlete will receive four (four) points for any takedowns (hip throws, tome nage, etc.) in which both feet leave the mat and the defender's body is projected over the attacker. This regulation is in line with the possible harm that such a takedown could inflict in self-defense.
